(Port Orchard) - Kitsap County has several new services designed to keep residents informed during winter storms. Residents can subscribe to email or text message updates through the Kitsap Electronic Notification System (KENS), the County’s Facebook page and a new Twitter feed. “These services let residents stay informed by the best method for them,” according to Doug Bear, County Public Communications Manager.
The Kitsap Electronic Notification System allows residents to choose from several options on the type of information they want, how they want it delivered, and how frequently they want updates. Subscribers can receive updates by e-mail, text message or sent directly to their mobile device. Information sent through this system is also posted to the County’s Facebook page. During storm events road closure and detour information, facility closures, and other information is also sent via Twitter.
To sign up for KENS Click Here. From there residents are prompted for the information needed, then pick from a menu the subject that interest them. Subscribers manage their profile and can add or delete subscriptions from their account.
On Facebook residents can “Like” the Kitsap County page (www.facebook.com/kitsapwa) and have updates posted to their personal news feed. To follow the Twitter feed go to the County’s Twitter page (www.twitter.com/kitsapwa) and click the “Follow” icon.
Winter storm updates are also posted to the County’s Inclement Weather page (www.kitsapgov.com/press/inclement_weather.asp) or click on the Inclement Weather icon on the County’s homepage. “We hope this will help the community stay connected during winter weather and provide information useful to them as they travel during storms,” Bear added.
