Fire

Every day Americans experience the horror of fire. But most people don't understand fire. Only when we know the true nature of fire can we prepare ourselves and our families. Each year more than 4,000 Americans die and approximately 20,000 are injured in fires, many of which could be prevented.

Remember - fire can result from a hazard inside your home, or it can result from a hazard outside your home such as a wildland fire. Wildfires present a major threat to homes in the wildland/urban interface. This is the area where wildland and residential areas meet, and where they can most be affected by each other. If you live in a rural/urban interface area be sure you are aware of any risks you may encounter from wildland fires.

KCDEM encourages people to review the important information that is listed under the Resouces section to the right. In addition, below are several helpful downloadable PDF's dealing with home fire safety as well as wildland prevention.
