Class Description:


The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. With real hands on training during the various classes, participants that take the entire course will use fire extinguishers on a real fire, perform search and rescue operations in the fire training tower and participate in a disaster exercise.

Students must commit to and complete the entire course in order to graduate. The course is made up of 7 separate classes as listed:

Monday, April 2, 2018 (6-9 PM) - Units 1 & 6 will cover the introduction to the program as well as basic disaster preparedness and the CERT command structure.

Saturday, April 7 (9 AM -3:30 PM) - Units 3 and 4 will cover basic disaster first aid.

Monday, April 9 (6-9 PM) - Unit 2 will cover basic fire and utilities training. We will talk about how to use fire extinguishers to put out small fires and how to safely turn on and off utilities.

Monday, April 16 (6-9 PM) - Unit 5 will cover basic light search and rescue methods.

Monday, April 23 (6-9 PM) - Units 7 and 8 will cover CERT and Terrorism as well as Basic Disaster Psychology.

Monday, April 30 - Final exam night!

Saturday, May 5 (1 - 5 PM) - Unit 9 will be the required full scale disaster drill where CERT trainees will get to put their classroom training into action!


Upon completion of the entire CERT program, team members will be given a back pack with some of the tools necessary for CERT members in the field!

Any citizen of Kitsap County 17 years or older

The program requires a full commitment to attend all classes.
